If you follow national environmental politics, you know the name Lisa Jackson. Since 2013, Jackson has served as Apple’s Vice President for Environmental Initiatives. Prior to that, she was Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, appointed by President Barack Obama. Her career and experience in government and in business demonstrate time and again that effective leadership on these issues can and does come from all sectors, and CLCV is honoring her at next Thursday’s Environmental Leadership Awards in San Francisco.

If it’s a California environmental law and you’ve heard of it, chances are good that Annie Notthoff helped get it passed.

Annie, who is Director of the Natural Resources Defense Council's California Advocacy program in San Francisco and has been a member of the CLCV Board of Directors for more than 20 years, has played a leading role in the efforts to secure many of California’s landmark environmental laws.

Tell state regulators to shut down all of these injection wells – before it's too late! Take action now: http://ecovote.org/PublicComments >>

The buzz this week is about honey bees.

As Americans, we love our national parks, national monuments, vast wildernesses and open spaces. We find it hard to imagine why elected officials wouldn’t support more of our public lands earning this protected status.

It's simply amazing. More than 950 Californians responded to our request for Letters to the Editor about the current threat to our federally-protected aquifers posed by underground waste injection wells. Protecting California’s limited groundwater is vitally important to all of us, so we expected a lot of letters – but we honestly never expected nearly 1,000 supporters would write in! It's incredibly gratifying and encouraging to see such a huge response!

The shocking revelations about the failures of state regulatory agencies to protect California groundwater from pollution continued this week.
